This from a frightening-looking new film called "Jesus Camp". I've not seen the youtube entries mentioned on HP, but this sort of thing should send shivers down the spine of every liberal thinking person everywhere.

These turkeys are not heroes. They are lazy, incompetent idiots looking for jobs because they're not qualified for honest work.

Just had a look back through some of our old entries and noticed a lot of comments that I missed! Apologies to those readers who may have felt ignored by my lack of response, but I've now gone back and added some of my thoughts to yours. Keep em' coming! Its heartening to see comments.

I was just about to sign off, when I noticed Edward's link to www.godhatesfags.com. I had a quick look round and was about to dismiss it as the usual mindless rubbish, but then something caught my eye. Check it out:

Why do you preach hate?

Because the Bible preaches hate. For every one verse about God's mercy, love, compassion, etc., there are two verses about His vengeance, hatred, wrath, etc. The maudlin, kissy-pooh, feel-good, touchy-feely preachers of today's society are damning this nation and this world to hell. They are telling you what you want to hear rather than what you need to hear, just like what happened in the days of Isaiah and Jeremiah: "That this [is] a rebellious people, lying children, children [that] will not hear the law of the LORD: Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits: Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us." Isaiah 30:9-11; "Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart." Jeremiah 14:14; "They have healed also the hurt [of the daughter] of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when [there is] no peace. Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time [that] I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD." Jeremiah 6:14-15. And also in the New Testament we are warned: "For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake. One of themselves, [even] a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians [are] alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith." Titus 1:11-13; "But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of." II Peter 2:1,2. What you need to hear is that God hates people, and that your chances of going to heaven are nonexistent, unless you repent. What you need to hear is a little fire and brimstone preaching, like Jesus preached. What you don't need to hear is that you're okay just the way you are, and God accepts everyone without exception. Don't listen to the money-grubbing heretic who stands at the front of your church. Listen to God. If you are one of His elect, you'll hear.

Now, I am well aware that these people are complete fruitcakes and most Christians will rightly have nothing to do with them. But it makes you think. Most Christians have already 'reinterpreted' (i.e ditched) the passages these folks harp on about because, quite simply, they are embarrassing. They just have to be convinced to ditch the rest and the human race will have one less reason to self-harm.

Anyway, its been a heavy day for blogging (by my standards).

I can't believe my eyes, after reading this:

Muslim leaders have urged Ruth Kelly, the Secretary of State for Communities, to support Islamic family law in Britain to stop youths joining Islamic extremists...

Dr Syed Aziz Pasha, secretary general of the Union of Muslim Organisations of the UK and Ireland, said he had asked for holidays to mark Muslim festivals and Islamic laws to cover family affairs which would apply only to Muslims.

Dr Pasha said he was not seeking sharia law for criminal offences but he said Muslim communities in Britain should be able to operate Islamic codes for marriage and family life. "In Scotland, they have a separate law. It doesn't mean they are not part of the UK. We are asking for Islamic law which covers marriage and family life. We are willing to co-operate but there should be a partnership. They should understand our problems then we will understand their problems."

I have no idea how important or influential the Union of Muslim Organisations or Dr Syed Aziz Parsha is. The good doctor, however, is well-respected enough to be given a lifetime services award. There are many reasons to be seriously concerned that people have even started suggesting this. Can you imagine if some English ex-pats (or even second or third generation Englishmen) living in Saudi Arabia called for the introduction of "English law" only applicable to the English. Such as all-night drinking, the right of women to wear bikinis etc etc. They would have their limbs amputated before you could say "tolerance".

Secondly, how would this help the Muslims in Britain anyway? There ought to be MORE cultural assimilation with Brits and Muslims, not less. Would this not lead to more racist attacks on Muslims, as well as more votes for the BNP. Both are horrific in their differing ways.

It is also difficult to see how this would placate extremists. Surely they want the whole country under Sharia law, not just Muslims. Surely the best way to curb extremism would be to put THE WHOLE COUNTRY under Sharia law NOW, so that terrorists won't blow themselves up here anymore. Then again, maybe we shouldn't, because from what I've seen, much of Sharia law is abhorrent to the good old principles of freedom of speech and freedom of expression.

Say Sharia law relating to the family was introduced. Would it include chestnuts like this?

Getting a quickie divorce has taken on a whole new meaning in Malaysia after it was decided that a man can divorce his wife with a text message.

The government's adviser on religious affairs, the man who counsels Malaysia's Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, said as long as the message was clear and unambiguous it was valid under Islamic Sharia law.

Is there any upside to this proposal at all? Have I got the wrong end of the stick? I'd quite like to know...

Following Adam's Looneywatch on Mel Gibson, an interesting follow up here:

In his latest statement, Gibson said he had "personally offended" the Jewish community and asked it "to help me on my journey through recovery."

"I know there will be many in that community who will want nothing to do with me, and that would be understandable. But I pray that that door is not forever closed," he said.

I can't imagine there will be any in the Jewish community who will want anything to do with him. Sounds to me as though Gibson has had a word with his "people", and decided the best way to get back respectability was to be seen doing nice stuff with Jewish community leaders.

Hopefully Gibson's advances will be ignored, and he will be denied the chance of using the Jewish community to repair the ruins of his career.

I receive lots of threats in one form or another, but the following has a peculiar interest in that it is signed. The website of the Atlantic Monthly received the following posting at 12.44 a.m. on 18 July:

"Christopher Hitchens will be executed at 12.00 noon GMT on 20 July" The communication was followed, perhaps inadvertently, by the name joshjackson2009@yahoo.com I have to say that I admire his punctiliousness in respect of Greenwich time.

I have written to Mr Jackson to say that I shall be unable to keep the appointment and that he will have to reschedule it. I have also advised him that in cases of this kind I like to know details about place of employment, social security number, credit rating, family connections and all the rest of it. He has not thus far responded. If any readers have any light to shed, I would be grateful to hear from them.
